Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post-secondary education including a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in geological science (geology) and a graduate degree (M.Sc. or PhD) with specialization in 3-D geological modelling
Experience: Candidates should have experience in Corel Graphic Suites or similar / equivalent software programs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be registered with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), or possess an equivalent, transferable professional designation from another Canadian regulator
  • The candidates should have experience in developing, constructing, and maintaining 3-D geological models using 3-D geological modelling software (i.e. GoCAD/Skua) and 3-D geological modelling methodologies
  • The candidates should have experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS – ArcGIS and / or ArcGIS Pro) with emphasis on the application of geological principles to editing and manipulating geological datasets (including the processing and analysis of geospatial raster data) and/or creating maps and geological databases
  • The candidates should have experience in database design and administration, including but not limited to MS Access, Personal SDE, and Oracle
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team and Experience in GIS programming, including but not limited to Python, Visual Basic, and Model Builder
  • The candidates should have Verbal communication skills are necessary for articulating technical concepts into understandable terms and Knowledge of cartography and Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage multiple competing priorities within tight deadlines

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to, be responsible for the development, construction, and maintenance of provincial three-dimensional (3-D) geological models and databases
  • The candidates should be able to, demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of geoscientific principles and bedrock geology for complex model development, along with effective communication with staff geoscientists to build accurate 3-D geological models, and to expedite geological map editing and cartographic representation
  • The candidates should be able to, work independently and collaboratively with staff, jurisdictional geological surveys, and academia to advance geoscience knowledge, as well as inform decision-makers, policy development, and land-use decisions
  • The candidates should be able to, be additionally responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geological data resources of the Minerals, Petroleum, and Geoscience Division
  • The candidates should be able to, be responsible for assigned earth science-based GIS mapping projects and outputs (digital and hard-copy), geological/geospatial databases both locally and online, as well as providing departmental quality assurance/quality control and support and training to staff
