Work setting: Child care centre and urban area
Supervision: 1 to 2 people

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as College/CEGEP
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 2 to less than 3 years
Credentials: Emergency child care first aid and CPR, member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE), and Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate
Security and safety: Medical exam, tuberculosis test, and vulnerable sector check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be comfortable working outdoors
  • The candidates should be non-smoking and able to work in air-conditioned environments
  • The candidates should be physically capable of meeting demanding tasks
  • The candidates should be able to adapt to a combination of sitting, standing, and walking during their duties
  • The candidates should be capable of bending, crouching, and kneeling as required

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children
  • The candidates should be able to engage in storytelling and lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest
  • The candidates should be able to supervise staff, trainees, or volunteers and assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote children’s development
  • The candidates should be able to encourage children’s creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity and guide them in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits
  • The candidates should be able to prepare snacks, arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods, and maintain an environment that protects children’s health, security, and well-being
  • The candidates should be able to observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems, submit written observations to educators or supervisors, and discuss progress and problems at staff meetings
  • The candidates should be able to establish guidelines for behavior, maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers, and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and assistants
