Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience related to highway maintenance operations

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to be legally entitled to work in Canada, hold Operator certification on core light and heavy-duty equipment and be able to be certified as a Capable Person Trainer
  • The candidates should be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting or carrying up to 25 kg, walking, sitting, or standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, twisting, bending, operating vehicles and equipment, as well as exposure to dust or pollen, irritating vegetation, and chemicals or fumes
  • The candidates should be able to work extended hours, weekends, and on statutory holidays and be called out to work at unusual hours and have the ability to respond to an emergency situation within a reasonable time frame (30 minutes)
  • The candidates should be able to work in all weather conditions, and be prepared for both extreme heat and cold
  • The candidates should be able to possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 3.0 driver’s licence with air brake endorsement without restrictions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in the operation and maintenance of commonly used highway maintenance equipment, complete paperwork and prepare reports
  • The candidates should have experience with road maintenance policies, practices, and materials, knowledge of Occupational Safety, Health, and Risk Management Policies and Procedures
  • The candidates should possess strong interpersonal communication skills, possess strong leadership skills
  • The candidates should have strong organizational and time management skills, strong decision-making skills
  • The candidates should have basic computer experience (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet), knowledge of Maintenance Management System (MMS

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to oversee maintenance employees involved in a variety of highway maintenance tasks
  • The candidates should be able to plan, schedule, and ensure the availability of manpower and equipment required to maintain the highway network within the designated maintenance area
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate various routine tasks and occasionally manage special projects
