Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of certified as a Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician
Experience: Candidates should have experience in diagnostics and repair of light and heavy equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to independently solve problems, the ability to manage time and tasks effectively and the ability to build relationships
  • The candidates should be physically capable of meeting job demands, including crawling under vehicles, climbing on ladders, bending, stretching, twisting while working in tight spaces, standing or kneeling on cement floors, and lifting or moving heavy objects such as tires, rims, and brake drums
  • The candidates should regularly lift or move objects weighing 25 to 50 lbs, with occasional lifting of objects over 50 lbs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be certified as a Red Seal Journeyperson Truck and Transport Mechanic OR a Red Seal Journeyperson Automotive Technician with experience in heavy equipment and heavy trucks
  • The candidates should have experience in electric welding and acetylene cutting and knowledge of diagnostics for heavy equipment and heavy trucks
  • The candidates should have knowledge of repair techniques for heavy equipment and heavy trucks
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
  • The candidates should possess a valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 license and provide a current Driver’s Abstract suitable to the Employer and Red Seal Journeyperson certification in the required discipline

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide skilled journeyperson level work in diagnosing problems related to light and heavy equipment
  • The candidates should be able to perform advanced work in a variety of other trades associated with the repair of vehicles and related equipment
  • The candidates should be able to repair, rebuild, and fabricate parts and components of light and heavy vehicles, vehicle systems, and related equipment
  • The candidates should be able to perform work on equipment including trucks, loaders, snow plows, snow blowers, graders, and air-powered equipment
  • The candidates should be able to perform duties in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices pertaining to the workplace and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to provide emergency road services and make field repairs and oversee apprenticeship technicians and perform other related duties
