Labourer, fish-processing plant position

Northsyde Processing Ltd, based in North Sydney, NS is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the Labourer, fish-processing plant position. Since 1975, we have transitioned from the original Nova Scotia Salt Fish Packers Association to the Nova Scotia Fish Packers Association in a seamless fashion to reflect the activities of our membership better. We have represented small and medium-sized land-based seafood companies primarily in South West Nova Scotia. In recent years, we have expanded our membership base to include all of Nova Scotia. The original focus on salt fish now includes virtually every fish in the ocean The candidates who will get selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language.
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications such as a high school, bachelor’s degree, certificate, or a diploma
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience, although having experience is an asset
Work Site Environment: Noisy, Odours, Dusty, Cold/refrigerated, Wet/damp
Weight Handling: Up to 9 kg (20 lbs)

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to do manual dexterity
  • The candidate should be able to do attention to detail
  • The candidate should be able to do hand-eye co-ordination
  • The candidate should be able to stand for extended periods
  • The candidate should be able to do bending, crouching, kneeling
  • The candidate should be able to do overtime

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills
  • The candidate should be flexible
  • The candidate should be reliable
  • The candidate should be a team player

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to weigh fish or shellfish, record weight and pack fish in ice
  • The candidate should be able to sort fish according to species, weight, and destination
