Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of high school
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to lift objects such as buckets of paint or boxes of plaster and move furniture and equipment weighing 25 to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • The candidates should be able to stand and walk constantly, climb ladders, scaffolds, and stairs, as well as bend, kneel, crawl, and stretch when plastering, painting walls, baseboards, ceilings, and working in confined spaces
  • The candidates should be able to wear safety equipment such as a respirator when spray painting, safety harness when working at heights, hard hat, mask, eye protection, and safety boots
  • The candidates should have the ability to independently troubleshoot problems and ability to manage time and tasks

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience with tools and practices related to painting and plastering
  • The candidates should have experience in the various building trades in the maintenance and repair of large institutions or similar buildings at the semi-skilled level
  • The candidates should have knowledge of methods, tools, and practices related to painting and plastering
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
  • The candidates should demonstrate professionalism, a valid Class 5 Driver’s license and provide a current driver’s abstract satisfactory to the Employer

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform painting and plastering work in the maintenance and new construction of building structures, equipment, and furnishings in institutional or public buildings and facilities
  • The candidates should be able to prepare surfaces for applying paint, stain, and other finishes by washing, scraping, sandblasting, sanding, and priming and erect barriers for dust and contaminant control
  • The candidates should be able to mix and match paints, varnishes, epoxies, and stains in preparation for application on walls, ceilings, doors, cabinets and apply paint with brushes, rollers, sponges, cloths, and spray guns
  • The candidates should be able to mix, apply, and smooth plaster on walls, ceilings, and patch holes in walls and concrete floors and install drywall corners
  • The candidates should be able to apply vinyl and paper wall coverings, rubber baseboards, and may glaze windows and maintain a variety of tools such as a paint sprayer and mixer, sander, grinder, drills, and rotary tools
  • The candidates should be able to erect scaffolding for interior and exterior work and prepare material lists
  • The candidates should be able to maintain inventory to ensure required materials and tools are in stock to complete all jobs and ensure proper storage of hazardous materials
  • The candidates should be able to clean brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels, and other equipment used in the painting and plastering process and review blueprints to determine the quantity of materials
  • The candidates should be able to move furniture and equipment and remove blinds and curtains and order materials and supplies from the storeroom
  • The candidates should be able to complete work orders and coordinate work activities with other trades workers and meet with contractors to discuss job requirements and assist with other maintenance work
