Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have two years of program facilitation experience within the last five (5) years
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be willing to obtain and maintain certification in specialized program areas
- The candidates should be able to work independently and with others by using leadership, guidance, listening, verbal communication, and relationship-building skills
- The candidates should have the ability to acquire an understanding of corrections programming and criminogenic issues
- The candidates should have awareness of cultural diversity, specifically northern Indigenous traditions and values
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have knowledge of and the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of corrections policies and procedures, as well as security operations
- The candidates should have knowledge of human behavior and adult issues and typically have a Diploma in a related field combined with Equivalent combinations of education and experience
- The candidates should be able to successfully meet qualification requirements for current program modules within six months of employment. Failure to meet these qualifications within this period may result in termination
- The candidates should be open to formal training and refreshers provided by the Corrections Division to suitable candidates
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work as a Program Coordinator at the South Mackenzie Correctional Centre (SMCC) in Hay River, reporting to the Deputy Warden
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with institutional staff, individuals in custody, community Elders, and other agencies to deliver a structured daily program for persons in custody
- The candidates should be able to supervise one (1) Program Delivery Officer and manage the TC Program, designed to address criminogenic needs in a therapeutic setting
- The candidates should be able to incorporate traditional Indigenous values, principles, teachings, and activities into the program, alongside core criminogenic programs
- The candidates should be able to oversee four key phases of the program: three phases within the Therapeutic Community and one phase in the community of release
