Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language.
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a graduation with a diploma, from a recognized post-secondary institution, with specialization in Naval Architecture, Marine Systems Design, or Mechanical Technology (i.e. Technology/Technologist).

  • The candidates who are Junior Project Technologists and Intermediate Project Technologists need experience in reviewing and preparing documents such as specifications, Statements of Work, Technical Statements of Requirements, drawings and cost estimates for engineering projects or initiatives.
  • The candidates need experience in applying/using Transport Canada, SOLAS and Class Regulations.
  • The candidates who are Junior Project Technologists need at least one (1) year of experience providing technologists support services including analyzing issues, assessing impacts and developing options or solutions in a marine design, construction or refit environment.
  • The candidates who are Junior Project Technologists need at least one (1) year of experience using AutoCAD 2010 (or later) to generate detailed Structural, Mechanical or Electrical 2D drawings.
  • The candidates who are Intermediate Project Technologists need at least two (2) years of experience providing technologists support services including analyzing issues, assessing impacts and developing options or solutions in a marine design, construction or refit environment.
  • The candidates who are Intermediate Project Technologists need at least three (3) years of experience using AutoCAD 2010 (or later) to generate detailed Structural, Mechanical or Electrical 2D drawings
  • The candidates need knowledge of configuration management fundamentals and associated processes.

  • The candidates who are Intermediate Project Technologists need key leadership competencies of supervisor level

  • The candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively (both oral and written communication will be assessed)
  • The candidate should have the ability to use Word Processing (e.g. Microsoft Word) and Drawing Software Program such as TIFF, PDF or AutoCAD.
  • The candidate should have the ability to gather and interpret information from technical drawings commonly used in the marine industry.
  • The candidate having educational/occupational certifications such as completion of a training program in project management (i.e. certificate or diploma) OR project management professional (PMP) certified designation or degree equivalency is an asset
  • The candidates need experience in providing technical expertise and advice for the assessment of vessel construction projects, vessel refits or vessel work periods.
  • The candidates need experience in producing ship or vessel structural drawings
  • The candidates need experience in producing drawings for electrical systems, including block diagrams and schematics.
  • The candidates need experience in producing drawings for mechanical systems, including block diagrams and schematics.
  • The candidates need experience in analyzing ship stability, including the relative positions of CoB, CoG, Metacentre in various conditions
  • The candidates need experience with GHS software or equivalent for intact and damage analysis stability analyses
  • The candidates need experience with hand calculations for simple structural analyses (bending moments, UDL’s, point loads etc.) to analyze local stress and be able to calculate shear area of ship sections
  • The candidates need experience in leading or supervising staff including assignment of work and managing, monitoring, addressing and assessing performance
  • The candidates need to wear and maintain CSA approved safety footwear and maintain job-related personal safety equipment.
  • The candidates need to, occasionally, travel on short notice using various means of transportation such as ships, planes, and helicopters.
  • The candidates need to, occasionally, work extended hours or overtime to meet operational requirements.
  • The candidates need to conduct site visits to vessels, shipyards, and other industrial sites, involving walking over rough terrain and/or climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, or other structures, maintaining balance on a moving vessel, and bending in awkward positions and working in confined spaces.
  • The candidates need to complete Health Canada Pre-Placement Medical/Periodic Medical.
  • The candidates who are hired as the core public administration are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and attest to their vaccination status unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be responsible to develop technical statements of work for installation of new equipment or ship systems design
  • The candidate should be able to propose new changes to existing ship structure and system in accordance with Canadian and international regulations to meet CCG operational requirements
  • The candidate should be able to manage and update vessels drawings and technical documentation using various CAD software from information gathered from stakeholders and vessel visits to capture as fitted changes
  • The candidate should be able to create refit test and inspection plans
  • The candidate should be able to contribute to developing new business rules, technical standards and best practices across the CCG community and to provide technical solutions to complex projects during vessel refit and dry docking
