Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completed a 4-year university degree in Nursing (BScN)
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience, preferably in a geriatric-gerontology or long-term care setting
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have post-basic preparation in gerontology, be a member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) (desirable) and hold Canadian Gerontological Certification from the Canadian Nurses’ Association (desirable)
- The candidates should be a Registered Nurse (RN) current with the College of Nurses of Ontario and be familiar with the scope and purpose of gerontological nursing and the related functions or activities in nursing
- The candidates should have knowledge of age-related changes, ethical dilemmas, and considerations in gerontological nursing and an understanding of the management of common chronic problems and the specific needs of the older person, including dementia care and safety concerns
- The candidates should have knowledge of infection control guidelines, nursing documentation standards (RAI-MDS), and principles of rehabilitation and activation for older persons and be familiar with nursing goals such as promotion, prevention, maintenance, rehabilitation, and palliation
- The candidates should have knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act and Nursing Act)
- The candidates should be familiar with principles of verbal and non-verbal communication, labour relations, and collective agreements
- The candidates should be knowledgeable of health and safety legislation and actions to ensure workplace safety and embody the City’s core behaviours and leadership competencies
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide resident care based on individual needs as determined by medical, nursing, functional, and psychosocial assessments, as well as each resident’s expressed
- The candidates should be able to deliver specialized, restorative, supportive, and palliative care for persons with dementia, disabilities, and health problems who cannot live independently or whose needs cannot be met in the community
- The candidates should be able to manage and supervise the Nursing Program and staff in a designated area with a focus on resident safety and engagement and ensure the delivery of quality, holistic resident care
