Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR)
Experience: Candidates should have experience working with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behavior
  • The candidates should be self-directed team players who are highly organized and possess the communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work within an interprofessional collaborative team environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have medication administration certification and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling them to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, addictions issues, psychosocial rehabilitation, the recovery model, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, and severe and persistent mental illness
  • The candidates should have the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status assessments, monitor clients’ response to pharmaceutical care interventions, and engage in documentation and ongoing communication with other team members and charge nurses
  • The candidates should demonstrate an understanding of the forensic legal and health care systems and the ability to develop and implement forensic risk assessment plans and possess a strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues, and risk assessments
  • The candidates should have knowledge of computer literacy and Bilingualism (French and English) and proficiency in a second language

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide client-centered, recovery-oriented, psychiatric, and general nursing care, adhering to the standards of practice set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, CAMH policies, and the CAMH Practice Model of Care
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the security and safety of the client care environment while working within a primary nursing model
  • The candidates should be able to perform assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate interprofessional plans of client care for clients with mental health and addiction issues, including those detained under the Criminal Code or the Ontario Review Board (ORB)
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with other services in the Complex Mental Illness Program and community agencies to coordinate care for clients, contributing to program development, and providing education, support, and supervision to students
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of risk management plans, as well as contribute to the assessment of clients’ fitness for trial and ensure compliance with ORB dispositions or court orders
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the preparation of ORB and Court reports and support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements
