The Government of Manitoba-Department of Transportation and Infrastructure based in Winnipeg, MB is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Seasonal Operator-Summer Jobs 2023. Salary: $19.67 – $23.49 per hour Plus Remoteness Allowance, if applicable.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language.
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualification such as high school, bachelor’s degree, a certificate or a diploma, having previous academic background is an asset
Experience: Candidates need experience operating light and/or heavy duty equipment and need experience operating hand or power tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 70lbs, and wear protective equipment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada, Depending on position a valid Class 5 Drivers License and/or Class 3 Drivers License (Please specify what class you have)
  • The candidate should be able to work for extended hours over the summer months, including daily overtime and/or overtime on weekends, as well as statutory holidays as required and able to work with paints, solvents, or chemicals
  • The candidate should be able to be away from home for several nights on a continuous basis and also be able to work in extreme environmental conditions (extreme heat/cold, dust, etc.)
  • The candidate should be able to travel extensively throughout the province
  • The candidate should have effective Interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team and have the knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety, Health and Risk Management.
  • The candidate should have effective Verbal communication skills and have the ability to understand and follow instructions both verbally and in writing.
  • The candidate should have the ability to maintain and service the equipment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to work with the seasonal Pavement Marking or Asphalt Mixing Crews as part of a 2 to 8 person crew who perform traffic painting and asphalt mixing throughout Manitoba, performing physical labor and operating equipment
  • The candidate should be able to perform duties such as physical labor, operating light and heavy duty equipment (as trained by the department), using hand and power tools, and operating gas powered equipment
  • The candidate should be able to perform duties such as assembling and dismantling of appropriate traffic control devices, providing direction in the safe movement of traffic around and through the work site, assisting with setup and take down of equipment required for the job or based on experience and program requirements, operating and maintaining various specialized equipment or tools
  • The candidate should be able to perform responsibilities to driving 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton and 5 ton trucks
  • The candidate should be able to perform duties such as pre and post trip vehicle inspections, filling out mileage log books and also hauling materials using vehicles and trailers
