Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of university degree in Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have several years of transit industry experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to motivate a team, maintain a harmonious working environment with due regard for safety and quality standards, and effectiveness in keeping within budget and time constraints
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate all activities relating to assigned safety and systems engineering aspects of vehicle and equipment acquisition projects and programs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should understand and apply relevant laws and regulations and apply administrative policies, processes, and procedures
  • The candidates should demonstrate specialized expertise and knowledge in the assigned field and and minimize the risk of Health and Safety issues
  • The candidates should plan and organize activities or projects to meet section and organizational goals and audit systems, processes, and products
  • The candidates should have a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent and communicate in a variety of mediums
  • The candidates should be registered as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and a valid Class “G” Province of Ontario driver’s license
  • The candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of safety and systems engineering principles and practices relating to transit vehicles
  • The candidates should have technical expertise with regards to risk assessment and hazard analysis, establishing, and implementing System Safety Certification and Assurance Plans
  • The candidates should have strong familiarity with heavy and light rail operations and maintenance methodology
  • The candidates should possess good verbal and written communication skills, proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should have a good level of computer literacy, in particular MS Word, Excel, Access Database, PowerPoint, and Project applications and Software Quality Management System packages

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Manager – RAMS and be responsible for safety activities related to new transit vehicles, charging infrastructure, system acquisitions, and applications and work closely with external suppliers as project-specific hazard controllers, verifying and validating processes to ensure compliance with system assurance requirements and performing safety compliance audits
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with internal customers to develop and accept solutions, providing safety engineering support services for new transit vehicles, system acquisitions, charging infrastructure, and applications
  • The candidates should be able to monitor, validate, and audit supplier’s System Safety and Assurance Plans and other plans developed to support TTC policies and the Commission-wide System Safety Plan
  • The candidates should be able to develop, manage, and implement Vehicle and System Safety Certification Plans and Safe Operating Procedures in conjunction with suppliers; inspect and monitor related equipment; conduct risk assessments; test safety equipment; and ensure work is completed within defined timeframes and budgets
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate all activities related to assigned safety and systems engineering aspects of transit vehicles, charging infrastructure, and equipment acquisition projects and programs
  • The candidates should be able to develop and collaborate in the development of specifications, standards, System Safety Certification Plans, and System Safety Program Plans for various transit vehicle applications
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and audit vehicle design, manufacture, and commissioning to ensure compliance with safety legislation, standards, specifications, and operating protocols
  • The candidates should be able to conduct safety compliance audits to ensure that safety components on new vehicles and charging systems meet or exceed engineering specifications and prepare, review, monitor, and manage project-specific hazard logs as hazard controllers
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with internal stakeholder departments and suppliers to ensure smooth implementation and transfer of knowledge and responsibility, including the development of Standard Operating Procedures
  • The candidates should be able to travel within Ontario, Canada, and worldwide as required throughout the stages of new transit vehicles and equipment design, development, manufacturing, and delivery
