Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an Inter Provincial Electrical Trade Certification
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience as an Inter Provincially Certified Electrician

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to undertake accurate troubleshooting of HVAC equipment
  • The candidates should be able to handle multiple tasks while maintaining focus on priorities
  • The candidates should have experience working in a client-centered environment with a strong focus on client service and work effectively in a team environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have and have working experience in this role and experience as an Electrician within a large-scale institutional facility, preferably in a College, University, or Hospital
  • The candidates should have experience with Lighting Control systems and in-depth knowledge of facility electrical systems operation and maintenance
  • The candidates should have working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook and possess excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical systems across Algonquin College campuses under the general direction of the Supervisor, Operating Services and ensure that the operation and maintenance of equipment comply with legislated maintenance and safety codes
  • The candidates should be able to maintain continuous operation of high-voltage equipment (44KV), switchgear, fire alarm systems, auxiliary power systems (generators and batteries), and related components
  • The candidates should be able to repair or replace motors, ballasts, lights, outlets, switches, clock systems, control center power panels, and HVAC systems, and report deficiencies to the appropriate authorities
  • The candidates should be able to inspect and test fire alarms and fire suppression systems regularly and maintain academic shop equipment, address electrical hazards, and repair or replace indoor and outdoor lighting systems
  • The candidates should be able to test auxiliary power systems, including battery packs and generators, in compliance with electrical codes and install and maintain electrical and electronically controlled equipment in proper operating condition
  • The candidates should be able to respond rapidly to electrical failures to minimize interruptions to College activities and address electrical problems at all campuses and schedule and prioritize work requests while ensuring necessary materials and supplies are available for repairs
  • The candidates should be able to assist other trades as required and maintain an up-to-date database of all equipment under their care and create and implement a Preventive Maintenance Program, including establishing tasks and frequencies mandated by code
  • The candidates should be able to review and record the condition of existing equipment, recommending repair or replacement to enhance safety, efficiency, and productivity and provide technical information to Physical Resources team members and assist in preparing Standard Operating Procedures
  • The candidates should be able to ensure contractor work complies with scope, specifications, codes, and proper practices while documenting deficiencies to report to the supervisor and fabricate and repair various items shafts, linkages using their design expertise and ideas and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or coordinator
