City of Ottawa is Canada’s capital, in the east of southern Ontario, near the city of Montréal and the U.S. border. Our Ottawa River has at its centre Parliament Hill, with grand Victorian architecture and museums such as the National Gallery of Canada, with noted collections of indigenous and other Canadian art. Our park-lined Rideau Canal is filled with boats in summer and ice-skaters in winter. The candidates who will get selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English, French or Bilingual Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualification such as completion of second year college or university in mechanical, chemical, environmental or electrical engineering, architectural or civil/structural engineering with a strong computer applications background
Experience: Candidates need an experience of 1-2 years

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have the knowledge of project management principles and phases/life cycles of projects, related systems applications and data management tools also have the knowledge of aspects of the construction project management and administration process
  • The candidate should have intermediate level of knowledge of engineering theories, techniques, and procedures or higher mathematics also have intermediate level competency in writing and testing computer programs
  • The candidate should have intermediate level working knowledge of a variety of computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and FoxPro, MapInfo, ITX, Oracle, ArcView, AutoCAD, MicroStation 95, data communication protocols, graphics programs, statistical analysis programs, Aperture, SPAN, and IMA7, etc. also have knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
  • The candidate should be able to pay attention to detail have strong analytical skills and sound judgment also have strong communication skills, including tact, patience and assertiveness
  • The candidate should be able to supply own CSA-approved, green patch safety work boots also have a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • The candidate must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.
  • The candidate should have a driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be responsible for building a vibrant and safe public realm to protect and enhance Ottawa’s legacy. Programs and services include Surveys and Mapping, Right-of-Way, GIS and Data Management, Heritage, Urban Design, and Inspections
  • The candidate should be able to assist the supervisor or designate in performing the intermediate level engineering functions such as conducting engineering fieldwork including conducting visual surveys, collecting data, taking photographs, monitoring construction operations also conducting general construction site office duties
  • The candidate should be able to conduct engineering fieldwork and drafting also be able to read engineering plans and specifications, and reports
  • The candidate should be able to read or prepare designs and/or technical drawings also be able to perform complex calculations including quantity calculations
  • The candidate should be able to work with sensitive process and analytical instruments also be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, including participating in meetings, presentations, and interacting with the public
  • The candidate should be able to operate plotter, engineering copier, etc. also be able to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
  • The candidate should be able to and willing to work on construction sites also be able to operate cars and small trucks
  • The candidate should be able to operate power hand tools also be able to recognize process problems to prevent the need for costly repairs
  • The candidate should be able to prioritize and work independently also be willing to enter data for long periods of time
  • The candidate should be able to interact with a variety of people including the general public and be organized Organized, thorough
  • The candidate should be able to work in an office set in a technical work environment also be willing to work outside, on construction sites and to walk long distances
