Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduated from a recognized, two-year, post-secondary Electrical Engineering Technology program
Experience: Candidates should have two years of related experience in an electrical utility, including involvement in system operation
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to perform system power flow and voltage calculations and the ability to recognize hazardous situations or conditions
- The candidates should have the ability to work effectively in emergency situations and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- The candidates should have the ability to provide effective direction to others and the ability to communicate effectively with team members
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be eligible for certification as an Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T) with the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians
- The candidates should have knowledge of the theory relating to electrical power systems and knowledge of personal computers and computer programming
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to monitor the electric system for abnormal conditions and take appropriate action to restore electrical power safely, following outages or system disturbances
- The candidates should be able to promptly report matters requiring attention to the supervisor and appropriate management staff
- The candidates should be able to ensure electrical power flows are within system equipment capabilities, maintain acceptable system voltages, and optimize efficiency, including managing power factor, peak demand, and bulk supply acquisition
- The candidates should be able to prepare switching procedures and perform switching via the SCADA system, maintaining accurate logs of operations and equipment status
- The candidates should be able to complete reports and logs for all power interruptions and component failures
- The candidates should be able to file and distribute SCADA reports and perform routine backups of the SCADA system and assist with software upgrades
- The candidates should be able to edit the SCADA system database to reflect electrical system changes, and prepare specialized reports and custom control routines
- The candidates should be able to commission and troubleshoot SCADA master station and remote terminal unit equipment
- The candidates should be able to assist with investigating customer voltage complaints, analyzing system data, and performing various studies and perform other related duties
