The Salvation Army is known as an integral part of the Christian Church, although distinctive in government and practice. We work with the following doctrine of the mainstream of Christian belief and its articles of faith emphasise God’s saving purposes. We work with an objective of advancement of the Christian religion, of education, the relief of poverty, and other charitable objects beneficial to society or the community of mankind as a whole. The candidates who will get selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to full time or fixed term contract employment. The shifts the candidate has to work are yet to be determined.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language and linguistic knowledge
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualification such as a completion of secondary school
Experience: Candidates need experience in leadership in a camp setting
and a minimum 2 years’ experience working with children

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to work in indoor and outdoor environment
  • The candidate should be able to work in a fast paced and noisy environment
  • The candidate should be able to walk to local parks depending on weather conditions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to work with children from the ages of 4-12 years old
  • The candidate should be available for full 9 weeks of program from June 20 – August 19, 2022
  • The candidate should be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • The candidate should be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • The candidate should have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • The candidate must need standard First Aid and CPR
  • The candidate having alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • The candidate should have an access to a computer with reliable internet connection, as file access and meetings may take place online
  • The candidate should be able to pay attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • The candidate should be self-motivated and disciplined
  • The candidate should have strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics
  • The candidate should be able to work in an organized, hardworking, dedicated, creative, and possess leadership qualities

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be responsible for coordinating, conducting, and supervising all day camp activities while assisting the leadership and direction of day camp staff.
  • The candidate will have to provide a safe, fun, caring environment while the children are participating in a variety of activities, making new friends, and learning about the Christian faith
  • The candidates should be able to lead the development and implementation of camp activities, coordinating the schedule
  • The candidate should be able to provide direct leadership of daily camp operations and assist with various camp activities including Bible lessons, arts and crafts, music, sports, and games
  • The candidate should be able to oversee engagement of volunteers and their activities
  • The candidate should be able to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and address issues as needed
  • The candidate should be able to chaperone children on field trips
  • The candidate should be able to encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities
  • The candidate should be able to ensure the health and safety of all children
  • The candidate should be able to create and implement a weekly Day Camp program for children aged 4-7 and 8-12, overseeing day-to-day operations of the camp
  • The candidate should be able to work with the camp counsellors in planning, and implementing camp
  • The candidate should be responsible for daily camp logistics
  • The candidate should be able to supervise scheduled activities
  • The candidate should be aware of all safety protocol and government regulations and ensure that the camp falls in line with these requirements. This includes Covid-19 protocols and procedures as well as Online Safety regulations for The Salvation Army.
  • The candidate should be able to work cooperatively with the camp staff, church staff and families of those children attending day camp
  • The candidate should be able to attend all staff training/orientation and meetings
  • The candidate should be able to perform other duties as assigned
