Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a 2-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3 years of related experience in areas such as traffic signal operations, construction, and utility construction

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, effective planning and organizing abilities, high attention to detail, and strong initiative and self-motivation
  • The candidates should be prepared to work in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, or extreme cold), with part-time office work

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience working in the field with contractors, demonstrate intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • The candidates should hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending; use of a personal vehicle
  • The candidates should have experience with ArcGIS, possess or be eligible for a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to undertake detailed field inspections across multiple projects to ensure compliance with City of Calgary specifications, maintain coordination between field operations and office staff throughout the development of all related traffic control devices
  • The candidates should be able to recover moneys through stock issue and transfer processes, and initiate material requisitions, review project costs and identify instances of over- or under-expenditures
  • The candidates should be able to verify all quantities installed on site for the purpose of accurate payment processing, perform post-construction inspections for each project and conduct monthly environmental inspections, documenting deficiencies and communicating findings to contractors and the Project Manager
  • The candidates should be able to record, prepare, and distribute meeting minutes to relevant stakeholders, manage job folders, monitor material quantities, generate project reports, conduct investigations, and document testing results
  • The candidates should be able to perform video inspections of underground conduits to ensure installations are free of damage and debris, locate stub-outs, and compile investigative reports
  • The candidates should be able to conduct field investigations of existing infrastructure, including preparing Property Damage Occurrence Reports (PDOR) for the Engineering design group
  • The candidates should be able to prepare custom sign manufacturer orders and coordinate the installation of signage, track inventory of used materials in storage, monitor incoming and outgoing items, and coordinate the recycling of used materials
