Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of high school education supplemented with courses related to environmental science, conservation, biology and agriculture
Experience: Candidates should have experience working outdoors

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, the physical ability to handle required equipment
  • The candidates should be able to plan daily duties and organize equipment, demonstrate effective interpersonal relations and communicate effectively

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience working with vegetation management equipment weed whipper, demonstrate an active outdoor lifestyle, career interest, and/or work/volunteer experience related to environmental, ecological, or agricultural sciences (preference may be given to these candidates)
  • The candidates should have experience operating an ATV/UTV, a recognized current Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”/AED Certificate
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent, provide a 5-year Commercial Driver’s Abstract issued within 30 days of their application submission, with no more than 8 demerits or 4 demerits for a GDL
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Alberta Parks System and related experience to the posted position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to conduct herbicide applications and mechanically remove invasive plant species, mixing herbicide solutions, operating equipment (UTVs, sprayers, trailers, weed-whippers, weather gauges, and iPads), identifying species for removal, keeping accurate records, and cleaning/maintaining equipment
  • The candidates should be able to use ArcGIS Apps and program protocols to collect data at Alberta Parks sites
  • The candidates should be able to assist with vegetation management activities at Alberta Parks sites, conduct and participate in daily safety meetings
