Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of certification as a journeyman welder and must pass the CPKC Rail qualifying test
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate a safety-oriented work ethic supported by experience within the labour industry
  • The candidates should be comfortable working on structures at heights using proper fall protection equipment
  • The candidates should have the ability to follow instructions, rules, and regulations, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills, work effectively as valuable members of a team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of the welding equipment involved with the various welding procedures
  • The candidates should be able to comprehend blueprints, develop layout patterns for projects, and calculate quantities of materials
  • The candidates should have a thorough knowledge of metals, electrodes, welding gases, and gas welding filler rods
  • The candidates should be able to recognize defective welds, determine the cause, and perform proper repair procedures
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of the mathematical calculations relevant to the welding trade, possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform quality cuts using oxy-acetylene equipment, air gouging, and lancing tools, fit and fabricate steel according to structural specifications
  • The candidates should be able to repair structural bridge components, including cracked stringers, floor beams, and perforated web members, by installing splice plates, reinforcing plates, reinforcing angles, and other specified repair schemes
  • The candidates should be able to accurately read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints, order materials as needed to complete projects efficiently, perform all other duties as assigned by the structures supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to prioritize and maintain strict adherence to safety practices in a high-risk environment involving heavy moving equipment
  • The candidates should be able to remain focused and collaborate effectively within a team-oriented work setting
  • The candidates should be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, and direct sunlight
