Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as counselling or psychology, preferably supplemented by a Master’s degree and registration with BC Association of Clinical Councilors
Experience: Candidates should have considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess the ability to review police files of youth eligible for EJM, evaluate the needs of youth, determine options for intervention and referral, and coordinate case management meetings
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to identify and assess complex social issues, plan, develop, coordinate, implement, make decisions about, and evaluate programs and outreach services, and make changes as needed
  • The candidates should have the ability to provide advice, guidance, and recommendations to superiors and influence opinions, attitudes, and judgments about services and programs
  • The candidates should be capable of overseeing the work of subordinate staff performing youth outreach services and youth programming duties
  • The candidates should be effective communicators, both orally and in writing, and have the ability to make presentations

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be equipped with considerable knowledge of the psychological, social, and cultural issues of youth at risk
  • The candidates should be well-versed in YJCA and EJM principles, objectives, guidelines, and procedures as they relate to the work performed
  • The candidates should possess considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, and techniques for evaluating case management issues and program development
  • The candidates should demonstrate considerable knowledge of sources of current literature, trends, and developments in fields related to the work
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of the organization and function of the various internal sections, as well as the regulations, policies, and practices governing the work performed
  • The candidates should have some knowledge of funding sources from various agencies and the required application processes
  • The candidates should be skilled at establishing, sustaining, and developing effective working relationships with a broad range of external contacts and with internal staff at all levels
  • The candidates should be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision
  • The candidates should be proficient in preparing and maintaining a variety of reports, records, and correspondence
  • The candidates should possess a Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide individual counselling services to youth under the age of 18 years and family counselling services
  • The candidates should be able to assess complex social issues as they relate to youth
  • The candidates should be able to review police files of youth eligible for extrajudicial measures
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate the needs of youth and determine options for intervention and referral
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate case management meetings
  • The candidates should be able to complete and maintain client files and counselling notes
  • The candidates should be able to provide advice, guidance, and recommendations to superiors on issues within the department
  • The candidates should be able to establish, sustain, and develop effective working relationships with a broad range of agencies, service providers, and other organizations
  • The candidates should be able to provide presentations to school groups and parents on prevention topics and strengthening relationships
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the work of subordinate staff performing youth outreach services and youth programming duties
  • The candidates should have considerable independent judgment and action is exercised in carrying out day-to-day duties
