Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or Intermediate or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have 8-10 years’ experience as a Canadian Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) focusing on compliance

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry and/or at a customs brokerage firm supporting the oil & gas industry, with a strong solid understanding of oil and gas projects and equipment preferred
  • The candidates should possess a solid understanding of import/export procedures and Customs laws, rules & regulations
  • The candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of Incoterms 2010 and 2020 and their use in commercial contracts
  • The candidates should have a solid understanding of U.S. Foreign Trade Zones and should be great teammates with strong communication and customer service skills
  • The candidates should have Data analytics and visualization experience and have excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills, with high attention to detail
  • The candidates should have a strong ability to analyze sophisticated information & details and present findings in a clear concise format
  • The candidates should show up with a curious and questioning attitude to challenge existing ways of working and demonstrate the ability to drive change to influence corporate compliance and adherence
  • The candidates should have the ability to work effectively on a high-performing team while handling challenging priorities
  • The candidates should have Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Outlook, and Power Point)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for the governance and compliance activities/processes that support the import/export of commodities, various oil and gas equipment, and other tangible goods (parts and materials) pertaining to applicable business unit operations and projects within the organization
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the applicable business units and other supporting functions to facilitate cross-border movement effectively and compliantly, maintaining good business insight related to Cenovus’ business operations and the ability to affect change in terms of enhancement and adherence to the customs control framework
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to the ongoing improvement of the customs control framework, including updated monitoring, measurement, and reporting capabilities and able to partner with business groups, logistics teams, and supporting functions to institutionalize clear pre-trade, trade operations, and post-trade processes, including commercial contract review and recommendations (including Incoterms 2010 and 2020)
  • The candidates should be able to identify areas for process improvement and develop metrics and reports to gauge success and able to contribute to corporate standards and procedures, guidelines/checklists, and desk procedures to align with standard methodology trade compliance requirements and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to conduct analysis and assist in the facilitation of internal audits to resolve import/export compliance performance and support external audit activities as required and able to support development and facilitate training to educate collaborators on import/export requirements and information relevant to their respective roles
  • The candidates should be able to help guide business teams in instituting required recordkeeping processes that substantiate origin, classification, and valuation and able to research and support various trade compliance process improvement initiatives in the areas of customs valuation, HS classification, and customs broker management
  • The candidates should be able to research and remain apprised of import/export regulations and communicate as such when new regulations impact Cenovus
