Position: Homeless shelter worker

Salary: $25.95 hourly for 5 to 128 hours per month
Employment Type: Casual employment Part time
Location: Nanaimo, BC
Shifts: Evening, Night, Shift, On Call, Early Morning
Work setting: Shelter for the homeless
Supervision: More than 20 people
Target audience: Persons with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), persons with an intellectual disability, persons with mental health disabilities, and street population
Requirements:
Languages:Â Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset
Area of specialization: Community service organization
Credentials: First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be knowledgeable about services for the homeless and able to lift and handle weights up to 9 kg (20 lbs)
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess efficient interpersonal skills and demonstrate interpersonal awareness
- The candidates should exercise good judgment and prioritize client focus
Candidate Status:
- Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
- Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
- If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform housekeeping activities and engage in food preparation
- The candidates should be able to resolve conflict situations and supervise activities of clients living in group homes and halfway houses
