Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be physically capable of performing the routine manual labour components of the position, which may include heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs), maneuvering within or around large equipment, and exposure to dust, noise, extreme weather conditions, diesel exhaust fumes, and chemical agents used in the mechanical field
- The candidates should maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada, ensuring that any work permits remain valid
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence and be able to obtain a Manitoba Class 2 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement within two months of employment
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate proficient mechanical aptitude through a test
- The candidates should have a complete set of mechanic’s hand tools on their first day of employment
- The candidates should successfully complete required training in the use of specialized equipment, such as scissors lifts and forklifts, within a specified time frame
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to assist in the diagnosis and repair of the City of Winnipeg bus fleet, diesel and other internal combustion engines, transmissions, hydraulic equipment, and all related electrical and auxiliary equipment
- The candidates should be able to develop a working knowledge of the technical and administrative procedures necessary to perform the duties of a Journeyman Truck and Transport Mechanic
- The candidates should be able to hold a minimum of Level 1 Truck and Transport Apprentice or a Red River College Certificate in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic
- The candidates should be able to have a minimum of Level 1 Heavy Duty, Automotive, or Agricultural Equipment Technician or Mechanic
- The candidates should be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and work with a minimum of supervision, demonstrating initiative and self-direction
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate acceptable safety and job performance relevant to this position
- The candidates should be able to use sound judgment in making decisions related to their work
- The candidates should be able to possess effective interpersonal skills to collaborate well with others
- The candidates should be able to adhere to the City of Winnipeg’s Respectful Workplace Standards in all interactions
