Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a Diploma program from a recognized post-secondary institution
Experience: Candidates should have with a minimum of 3 years of related experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed grade 12 supplemented by a relevant Trades Qualification and 3 years of related progressive experience
  • The candidates should have completed grade 12 and a related Technical Certificate Program (one-year full time) from a recognized post-secondary institution with additional related academic courses and training, including at least 1 credit course in both supervision and technical writing, supplemented by 4 years of related progressive experience
  • The candidates should be aware that an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience, possess a valid B.C. driver’s license with a safe driving history
  • The candidates should obtain an Arborist certification (International Society of Arboriculture) before the completion of the probation period
  • The candidates should obtain a Pesticide Applicator’s License before the completion of the probation period

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to implement all aspects of shade tree management including planting, pruning, pest management, base maintenance, root management, and tree risk assessments
  • The candidates should be able to perform supervisory and technical work in the planning, coordinating, and supervising of City crews and contractors
  • The candidates should be able to prepare schedules, conduct inspections, and complete reports related to the delivery of projects and programs, perform hands-on field work in all weather conditions
  • The candidates should be able to prepare annual and seasonal work plans for assigned functional areas based on section goals and within approved budgets
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement new work methods and techniques
  • The candidates should be able to review development plans and provide informed recommendations
  • The candidates should be able to develop asset-based management prescriptions, including preventative maintenance programs
  • The candidates should be able to implement and follow safety-related policies, procedures, and regulations while performing fieldwork in accordance with accepted standards and practices, respond effectively to service requests from the public
