Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 5 years current general operating room experience in a high acuity OR Experience in a team leader role

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in a charge nurse/leadership role, with an expectation to perform Charge Nurse duties
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team
  • The candidates should possess advanced problem-solving skills, integrating critical thinking and good judgment
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate communication skills that promote respect and foster a positive team environment
  • The candidates should possess effective interpersonal and written communication skills
  • The candidates should have computer skills, including experience with electronic charting and Microsoft Outlook
  • The candidates should have a Perioperative Certificate from an approved school of nursing
  • The candidates should hold Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification in Perioperative Nursing
  • The candidates should have previous operating room experience and taken a perioperative undergraduate course
  • The candidates should complete following courses, CRNA Medication Management – Chapters 1 – 4 and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care during the peri-operative patient experience, following hospital policies and standards as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • The candidates should be able to provide leadership in clinical practice by managing patient care and anticipating the needs of the patient, including ensuring equipment and supplies are available for the required cases
  • The candidates should be able to assume responsibility and act as a resource for staff skill development and support, demonstrating a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to quality initiatives and promote a professional work environment at all times
  • The candidates should be able to provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while ensuring their safety and well-being
  • The candidates should be able to utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families
  • The candidates should be able to play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to provide safe, quality patient and family-cantered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
