Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Successful completion of at least 1 year of a recognized post-secondary program in Environmental Studies, City Planning, Public Administration, Environmental Design, Natural Resource Management, Science, Social Science, Civil/CAD Engineering Technology, or Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of carrying out project work as directed and preparing or completing required reports and records
  • The candidates must be physically capable of performing all the duties of this position, which may include, working outdoors in potentially unfavorable weather conditions or for extended periods of time and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite applications, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • The candidates should possess the ability to deliver and manage projects in a team-based environment and have the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, legal descriptions, and plans
  • The candidates should establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts, and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard. The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid
  • The candidates must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to perform tasks required for the successful development and execution of the City’s Solid Waste Management Programs within the Support Services Branch, adhering to established policies and procedures
  • The candidate should be able to assist in the research, planning, development, and implementation of waste management policies, considering factors such as environmental impact, regulatory requirements, and community needs
  • The candidate should be able to assist in the development and implementation of diversion and recycling programs, aiming to reduce waste generation and increase the rate of recycling within the community
  • The candidate should be able to assist in the development and implementation of public engagement activities related to solid waste management, including outreach events, educational campaigns, and communication strategies to promote waste reduction and recycling initiatives
