Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a certificate or diploma in Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, or a related discipline from a recognized institution
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2 years of tree climbing experience and practical arboriculture work experience
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a valid Crane Operator (0-8 tons) certificate and a “Safety in Line Clearing” certificate from the Electrical Utility Safety Association or an equivalent such as a Line Clearing Awareness certificate from Hydro One
- The candidates should hold an ISA Certified Tree Worker designation, a certificate in the Trade of Arborist (Provincial designation), and a Certificate in the Trade of Utility Arborist
- The candidates should be knowledgeable in current accepted industry practices and be physically fit to work in varying climate conditions
- The candidates should demonstrate qualifications through written, oral, and practical examinations
- The candidates should have effective communication skills, both oral and written, along with time management skills, flexibility to adjust between duties, and the ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- The candidates should have an understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- The candidates should hold a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class DZ minimum (standard and automatic transmission) with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior
- The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract (no older than 30 days) and pass a Town-administered road test prior to assuming
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to implement assigned arboriculture work orders, including pruning, removal, and cabling, according to current policies, procedures, and generally accepted maintenance practices
- The candidates should be able to operate specialized equipment, including aerial bucket trucks, chippers, chain saws, skid steers, stumpers, and standard tree climbing equipment, in a safe and efficient manner
- The candidates should be able to maintain written records as required, including tree maintenance work orders, activity cards, and tailboard talk plans
- The candidates should be able to provide work direction and training to other staff and carry out duties that meet Health and Safety standards in a safe and responsible manner
- The candidates should be able to use a tablet computer to update completed work electronically
- The candidates should be able to perform duties including, but not limited to, hydro line clearing, grid pruning projects, and woodlands tree maintenance, including diagnosing tree maintenance requirements and addressing occasional service requests
- The candidates should be able to participate in a 24/7 rotational on-call pager schedule throughout the year, including emergency storm management after-hours service, perform other duties
