Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should hold a 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate and demonstrate progress towards obtaining a Class 1 certification
Experience: Candidates should have expertise in preventive and proactive maintenance strategies

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience with Powerhouse, ammonia plant operations, and Wastewater plant operations, previous experience in food processing, CFIA, and HACCP
  • The candidates should be familiar with electrical systems, health & safety standards, and CFIA/USDA statutory regulations
  • The candidates should have proficiency in MS Office, with experience in AutoCAD and MS Project being, experience working in a unionized environment
  • The candidates should possess a strong working knowledge of ammonia plant operations and powerhouse support
  • The candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment, live and teach Maple Leaf’s leadership values

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to lead the Powerhouse and Wastewater Treatment operators in accordance with company policies, procedures, and the collective bargaining agreement
  • The candidates should be able to manage daily payroll and scheduling for operators and prioritize daily work activities with Maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to instill safety objectives and measurements, fostering good staff relationships to gain commitment from all employees while following GMPs and HACCP
  • The candidates should be able to monitor all systems to keep the plant in compliance with federal, provincial, and corporate environmental regulations, including carbon-saving initiatives, establish and maintain records of all waste streams from the plant and identify any that may be recyclable
  • The candidates should be able to organize and lead monthly safety meetings, energy teams, and assigned projects, compile and send environmental reports to the plant’s managers and general supervisors
  • The candidates should be able to monitor water testing, environmental spills, and other logs daily, and act or direct the workforce
  • The candidates should be able to maintain the plant’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and work toward achieving Tier 3 Environmental Pioneer status, and be ready for ISO 14,001
  • The candidates should be able to track Preventative Maintenance (PMs), work orders, and maintain both electronic and hard copy libraries of all environmental records for audit purposes
  • The candidates should be able to manage capital projects to keep equipment up to date, take on additional responsibilities
