Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a college diploma, degree, or other recognized technical qualifications specializing in ceramics, craft and design, or fine arts
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in a ceramic studio and some experience as an assistant technician
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be available and willing to work evenings and weekends
- The candidates should provide a satisfactory criminal and vulnerable sector screening check dated within the last 30 days as a condition of employment if they are new hires or have not previously performed in this position
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should hold a valid Emergency First Aid with CPR B certification, a HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification if instructing children’s programs for ages 4-12 years
- The candidates should possess excellent communication and customer service skills, Â submit a letter of application addressing their expertise in professional work and community service
- The candidates should be able to provide a portfolio demonstrating their skills and experience during the interview process
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide technical support for specialized equipment in the ceramic studio, ensuring equipment is operated and maintained according to manufacturer standards. maintain the ceramic studio equipment in good operating order, including performing weekly and monthly maintenance
- The candidates should be able to ensure the safe operation of all equipment and adhere to proper handling of all products in the ceramic studio according to WHMIS standards, maintain and mix studio glazes and slips, as well as reclaim clay for programs
- The candidates should be able to operate, fire, and maintain four electric kilns for all programs, adhere to all Health and Safety procedures and standards
- The candidates should be able to provide technical support to users and staff to ensure proper and safe use of equipment, develop and provide all necessary safety training to users
- The candidates should be able to run the public Drop-in Ceramic Studio program for approximately 12 hours a week, support instructors and students in various clay programs
- The candidates should be able to communicate regularly with the Culture Coordinator regarding any problems or recommendations affecting the safe operation of the ceramic studio
- The candidates should be able to maintain all maintenance and safety logs for ceramic studio equipment, ensure all warranty requirements are maintained by following operating procedures and maintenance guidelines
- The candidates should be able to ensure the safety of all users in the ceramic studio and document all accidents, incidents immediately, submitting reports within 24 hours perform other duties
