Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or climate science
Experience: Candidates should have four years of strategy development or policy planning experience in the public and private sector
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have training in Project Management
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience in climate change planning and policy or strategy development
- The candidates should have a Master’s degree and demonstrated experience in handling projects and experience in public and stakeholder engagement
- The candidates should have membership, or eligibility for membership, in the Canadian Institute of Planners, or a related professional organization
- The candidates should have significant knowledge of planning legislation and regulatory requirements, including the ability to effectively exercise discretion and independence in the interpretation and application of requirements for climate or climate change
- The candidates should have knowledge of climate science and the intersection of climate change and ability to communicate complex information effectively both orally and in writing
- The candidates should have knowledge of applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and applicable governing policies and plans and excellent time management and project management skills
- The candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners and stakeholders and appropriately engage the public
- The candidates should have knowledge of climate change information and research, and the ability to translate this technical information into meaningful information for multiple stakeholders
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to develop policy, strategy, recommendations, and Council reports relating to climate resilience and environmental planning issues
- The candidates should be able to review and advise on the development or amendments of plans and guiding documents for alignment with best practices in climate resilience planning
- The candidates should be able to work with the Senior Environmental Engineer to advise on and communicate strategies and policies to be recommended to City Council
- The candidates should be able to participate in engagement activities with internal and external stakeholders to advance the City’s policies and strategies for climate resilience planning
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate advanced project management skills, including project scoping, determination of project outcomes and deliverables, preparation of requests for proposal, bid selection and award, contract management, time and cost controls, and project close out
- The candidates should be able to review project deliverables for alignment with project scope, schedule and overall outcomes and perform other related duties
