Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have graduated from a recognized, two-year, post-secondary civil, mechanical, drafting, or geomatic technology program
Experience: Candidates should have six years of directly related, progressively responsible, supervisory experience in inspecting municipal infrastructure

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to operate all surveying equipment, perform drafting of intermediate complexity
  • The candidates should be able to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications, communicate and deal effectively with contractors and fellow employees
  • The candidates should be able to interpret soils, asphalt, and concrete test results, supervise and train field staff effectively
  • The candidates should have the physical ability to perform the assigned duties,  demonstrated skill in the operation of a computer, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Access

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have certification as an Applied Science Technologist by the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians
  • The candidates should possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence, provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record
  • The candidates should have thorough knowledge of contract administration and construction

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to coordinate, assign, and supervise the work of office and inspection field staff, recommend schedules and staffing plans to management for approval, orient new employees and seasonal staff to job requirements and occupational health and safety regulations
  • The candidates should be able to coach and mentor staff regarding job performance and expectations, report and inform management about staff performance
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and oversee the preparation of technical drawings for infrastructure and underground utilities, conduct surveys and perform technical field inspections of assigned projects
  • The candidates should be able to record and maintain field notes for all surveys and inspections, perform calculations from field survey data to determine construction progress
  • The candidates should be able to instruct, train, guide, and evaluate staff on inspection protocols and procedures, use computer programs and technology to assist with work tasks
  • The candidates should be able to perform investigations, analyses, and prepare written reports, assist with the preparation of specifications and tenders and initiate work orders
  • The candidates should be able to design and provide layouts for surface work, research and compile statistical and other information for reports and recommendations
  • The candidates should be able to check detailed plans, drawings, maps, and charts for conformity with specifications and bylaws, collect technical data, perform calculations, and prepare cost estimates
  • The candidates should be able to assist engineering staff with project administration and operational studies, track, monitor, and manage cost accounts related to assigned work and perform other related duties
