Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a bachelor’s degree in business administration and operations management
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of operations experience, preferably in a technical and airline environment
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to obtain Transport Canada airport security clearance
- The candidates should be willing to travel frequently within the US and Canada, technical accreditation (relevant trade’s license, endorsements)
- The candidates should have the ability to deal professionally with conflict situations, demonstrated change management and coaching skills
- The candidates should be self-starters with demonstrated strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, an aptitude to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have demonstrated ability to lead a large group of direct, indirect managers and front-line employees in a technical operations environment, sound technical and working knowledge of airline ground support equipment
- The candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of ramp handling and aircraft ground handling requirements, previous experience and expertise in managing a large, unionized workforce, labour relations knowledge and experience in the practicable application of the IAM&AW collective agreement
- The candidates should have a strong focus on continuous improvement and achievement of objectives while maintaining positive and productive relationships both within and outside the work group
- The candidates should have a highly developed entrepreneurial spirit, good judgment, and a superior sense of initiative, very strong communication and organizational skills
- The candidates should have proven project management experience, strong analytical skills, with a background in statistics and/or Six Sigma, strong negotiating skills and knowledge of supply and customer contracts administration
- The candidates should have strong knowledge of Air Canada products and services, competencies, strategies, policies, organizational structure, functions, and metrics
- The candidates should be proficient in the use of personal computers and common office software applications (MS Office Suite) and other Air Canada Ground Support Equipment computer applications GroundStar, i-Ramp, M5 and E-Sage
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to inspire and motivate a team of 285 unionized employees and 11 non-unionized staff across 18 bases nationwide, managing and maintaining 18,000 Air Canada assets with a replacement value of $550-$600M
- The candidates should be able to lead and provide overall direction to GSE operations managers and frontline staff, ensuring adherence to Safety, Security, and Service standards, provide direction, support, and coaching to both management and unionized staff within the Ground Support Equipment organization
- The candidates should be able to foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional growth, and high performance through feedback, training, and development initiatives, drive operational excellence by achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) such as On-Time Performance (OTP) and serviceability
- The candidates should be able to optimize the deployment and allocation of staff to ensure productivity and operational efficiency, oversee all GSE shop operations, programs, and functionality to maintain high serviceability rates
- The candidates should be able to manage safety and security risks, identifying root causes and implementing corrective measures, lead employee engagement initiatives to enhance team morale and productivity
- The candidates should be able to ensure corrective actions are taken based on self-audit or regulatory audit findings and verify their effectiveness, ensure the Ground Support Equipment department operates in compliance with safety and environmental regulations at all levels
- The candidates should be able to oversee the implementation and audit of Air Canada Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conduct follow-up meetings with internal and external stakeholders, manage compliance with IOSA, SMS, and other applicable regulatory authorities
- The candidates should be able to anticipate, identify, and resolve safety, security, service, and operational issues in collaboration with the branch safety team, serve as the operational leadership interface on GSE issues with Airports, Maintenance, Cargo, Cabin Grooming, and external customers
- The candidates should be able to build effective working relationships with other branches, unions, airports, and government agencies, administer the Collective Agreement and enforce company policies on theft and loss control, attending hearings
