Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post secondary education directly related to occupational health and safety
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years’ related experience in a manufacturing or process industry

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess or be in the process of obtaining the CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, WCB Policy, and Environmental regulations
  • The candidates should demonstrate leadership and communication skills, both written and oral
  • The candidates should have strong PC skills and experience with Microsoft Office software applications. They should also be willing to relocate for promotional opportunities and career development
  • The candidates should have a combination of equivalent experience, skills, and education

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to develop, lead, and coach employees through effective training and communication methods to ensure a culture of safety and compliance within the plant and able to ensure plant compliance with Corporate policies and legislative requirements, including overseeing the implementation of safety programs and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to define and communicate clear roles and responsibilities to Departmental Managers, Supervisors, Joint Health & Safety Committee members, and all employees, ensuring they are understood and acted upon
  • The candidates should be able to develop, implement, and monitor the Safety Program, seeking continuous improvement through monthly departmental safety inspections, hazard analysis, and periodic audits
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a highly visible presence in the plant, addressing safety and compliance issues promptly and effectively and able to ensure timely reporting and follow-up on critical injuries and Ministry orders to Workplace Health & Safety officials and other relevant authorities
  • The candidates should be able to provide leadership by establishing safety goals, objectives, and measurements, fostering good staff relationships, and gaining commitment from all employees to prioritize safety
  • The candidates should be able to oversee health and safety orientation, committees, plant audits, accident investigations, and safety promotion plans and able to ensure proper training is provided to hourly and salaried employees on topics such as WHMIS, Accident Investigation, Lockout Procedures, First Aid, and Forklift Certification
  • The candidates should be able to manage all documentation related to work-related accidents and injuries, including claims processing and appeals, and contract with outside suppliers for necessary services such as PPE and audiometric assessments
  • The candidates should be able to remain available for calls on a 24-hour basis by cell phone to address any safety-related emergencies and able to prepare business plans and objectives for Occupational Health & Safety, Environment, and Security in collaboration with other senior site team members
  • The candidates should be able to develop Environmental processes and reports to comply with company and legislative requirements, including annual NPRI reporting and ongoing HWIN payments and registrations and able to handle communication of policies and set up contracts with local security agencies
  • The candidates should be able to communicate the implementation of new or changes to Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and HACCP to ensure consistent product quality and a progressive food safety program
