Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program
Experience: Candidates should have previous Community/Home care experience Medication Assistance experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates may be required to work a variety of shifts and shift patterns in Didsbury
  • The candidates should be able to work independently in a community setting

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a valid Driver’s License and a vehicle and have active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory and must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrollment from the Directory
  • The candidates should be nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program. They must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification
  • The candidates should be a graduate from an educational program using the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides or have met the criteria outlined in the Substantially Equivalent Competency Guidelines. Alternatively, within 155 hours of being employed, they should have commenced a training program based on the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides (HCAs). HCAs must complete the training program within 1 (one) year of being employed
  • The candidates should have Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification and demonstrate the ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction
  • The candidates should have effective communication in verbal and written English and have effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors, and team members
  • The candidates should preferably have a Medication Assistance Certificate or prior experience in Medication Assistance and preferably have previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals
  • The candidates should have well-developed time management skills and have assistance experience
  • The candidates should preferably have a good handle on iPhone technology and computer/email skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide direct care to clients in their homes in both the community and lodge setting
  • The candidates should be able to provide personal care and assist with activities of daily living as outlined in the care plan, including but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, grooming, transferring, and mobilizing
  • The candidates should be able to provide emotional support by being a good listener, supportive, friendly, sincere, and interacting in a positive and optimistic manner
  • The candidates should be able to provide respite care to relieve family caregivers, including but not limited to companionship, recreational activities, and supervision
  • The candidates should be able to perform health care duties as authorized on the client’s plan of care, including simple dressings, medication assistance, catheter care, ostomy care, and exercises for range of movement and strengthening
  • The candidates should be able to provide housekeeping services that are essential to the client’s activities of daily living in their immediate living space to increase the prospects for maintaining the client in their home/community
  • The candidates should be able to provide personal assistance, support activities of daily living, and provide comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support
  • The candidates should be able to work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community, or health care facilities
  • The candidates should be able to play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
