Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Journeyman’s certificate as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic and Technician
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to carefully monitor gauges, instruments, or processes, demonstrate problem-solving skills while exhibiting sound judgment
  • The candidates should be able to follow instructions with solid written and verbal communication skills, work effectively as a member of a team
  • The candidates should have the ability to perform a wide variety of tasks and adapt quickly as demands change
  • The candidates should prioritize safety, as this is a high-risk environment involving heavy moving equipment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a Journeyman’s certificate as an Automotive Mechanic/Technician, or be a registered and active 2nd or 3rd-year apprentice in Heavy-Duty Mechanics

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems associated with work equipment
  • The candidates should be able to conduct inspections and tests, repairing or replacing parts with limited resources in remote outdoor locations
  • The candidates should be able to perform welding repairs, investigate and diagnose equipment problems, taking corrective action to minimize disruptions to crew productivity
  • The candidates should be able to plan maintenance work and coordinate with other team members effectively
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets, and other required documentation
  • The candidates should be able to obtain and maintain certification in CPKC safety rules, work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, direct sunlight, and snow
  • The candidates should be able to travel for extended periods, with travel expenses and meal allowances covered
