Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 10, supplemented by technical courses
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to operate vehicles and heavy-duty equipment, ability to plan, assign, and supervise one or more subordinates
  • The candidates should be able to inspect and test City vehicles for roadworthiness, following provincial standards
  • The candidates should have skill in using and maintaining tools and equipment used in the trade
  • The candidates should have agility, muscular coordination, and sufficient strength to perform heavy manual labor, superior mechanical aptitude

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold an Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualifications (T.Q.) with an Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement
  • The candidates should have thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the automotive and mechanical trade, thorough knowledge of braking systems
  • The candidates should have considerable knowledge of hazards and proper safety precautions in the trade
  • The candidates should be able to perform complex skilled electrical and mechanical tasks related to the overhaul, repair, maintenance, and adjustment of motorcycles, automotive, and marine electrical systems, understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, including interpreting sketches and diagrams
  • The candidates should be able to interpret manufacturers’ instructions and diagrams for equipment
  • The candidates should be able to requisition parts and materials, possess a current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher, a satisfactory National Safety Code driving record
  • The candidates should have no more than 9 points accumulated over 5 years, with no more than 3 points in a single year
  • The candidates should have no more than one preventable work-related driving or equipment operating accident in any single year within the last 3 years
  • The candidates should attach a Commercial Driving Records Abstract (N Print) for the past 5 years (dated within 14 days of application)
  • The candidates should provide an Insurance and Claims History for the past 5 years (dated within 14 days of application)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to inspect, diagnose, and conduct routine maintenance work on fleet vehicles and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to support the outfitting and up-fitting of new vehicles, including completing approved modification requests
  • The candidates should be able to install components and read, create electrical schematics build, design, and troubleshoot electrical systems
  • The candidates should be able to work with a variety of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, light and heavy trucks, small and heavy equipment, and plant and facility maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to perform maintenance and repairs in a busy fleet servicing environment
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the Fleet & Manufacturing Service team to ensure quality and timely service
  • The candidates should be able to participate in training and development opportunities, including dealer training on newly purchased fleet equipment
  • The candidates should be able to adapt to a dynamic work environment with diverse servicing and maintenance tasks
