Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a three-year degree or diploma in Transit, Geography, Transportation Planning, and Transportation Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a public transit or transportation planning environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to interpret engineering, architectural, and survey plans
  • The candidates should have knowledge of public transit service standards, transit scheduling fundamentals, and transit system planning
  • The candidates should have the ability to adhere to strict deadlines with excellent time management and prioritization skills, as well as strong attention to detail

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have excellent reading, written, and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills with the ability to apply tact and diplomacy
  • The candidates should be computer literate in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • The candidates should have strong skills in statistical analysis, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to provide creative and innovative recommendations for transit routes and service delivery
  • The candidates should have knowledge of transit scheduling and ITS-related software, as well as GIS (Geographic Information System)
  • The candidates should possess a valid and unrestricted Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior
  • The candidates should be able to provide a current driver’s abstract (no older than 30 days) and pass a Town-administered road test as a condition of employment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to monitor, confirm, validate, and analyze on-street and schedule adherence issues to improve public transit services
  • The candidates should be able to act as the conduit between the Operations team and Planning team on all service-related matters
  • The candidates should be able to work with the Transit Planner to identify and define schedule and route changes for the scheduler
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and implement all detour planning due to road closures, construction, or special events based on operational requirements and customer safety, including preparation and posting of public-facing notices
  • The candidates should be able to manage special event planning for shuttle bus services in coordination with the Town’s special events coordinator or charters
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate fleet and staffing requirements and communication
  • The candidates should be able to provide input on bus stop and shelter planning, auditing, and assisting with planning of transit stop infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to act as a backup to the Transit Scheduler to perform all computerized route scheduling activities
  • The candidates should be able to assist with customer outreach activities alongside the Transit Planner perform other duties and special projects
