Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the French and English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a recognized Pharmacy Technician program
Experience: Candidates should have at least one year of experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate effective organization and time management skills, perform duties with flexibility and a high degree of accuracy

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be registered as a Part A Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • The candidates should have previous experience in a hospital environment and  experience with computerized systems
  • The candidates should have good knowledge of pharmacy practices and pharmacy mathematics
  • The candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and the patient population
  • The candidates should be bilingual in French and English and proficient in a second language

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide technical functions related to the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medication to inpatients and outpatient clinics using a computerized distribution system
  • The candidates should be able to perform unit-dose dispensing and maintain ward stock to ensure proper medication availability, manage the delivery of medication efficiently and accurately
  • The candidates should be able to handle purchasing and inventory control activities to maintain optimal stock levels, compound pharmaceutical products following established guidelines and safety protocols
  • The candidates should be able to monitor medication usage, check expiry dates, and maintain proper storage conditions
  • The candidates should be able to ensure pharmacy equipment is maintained and functioning correctly, audit and report discrepancies in medication inventory and distribution
  • The candidates should be able to provide outpatient dispensing services, support and participate in mentorship programs for learners within the pharmacy department
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to risk management, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives, practice to the full scope of a Pharmacy Technician, including performing independent double-checking duties
  • The candidates should be able to follow all Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations, professional standards, and corporate policies, work collaboratively in a diverse and team-oriented environment
  • The candidates should be able to comply with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements while performing their duties, perform additional tasks as assigned by the department or program
