Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certification
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be registered members in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • The candidates should preferably possess or be currently pursuing a BScN, CNA certification in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing, or Gerontology
  • The candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the Nurse-Client relationship, provide family-sensitive care, and collaborate within an inter-professional team
  • The candidates should demonstrate effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to provide effective behavioural support and intervene in clinical situations involving disturbed behaviour
  • The candidates should have knowledge of normal aging processes, geriatric mental health, geriatric treatment modalities, and addiction issues
  • The candidates should be able to work with clients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
  • The candidates should have Bilingualism (French and English) and proficiency in a second language
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of Gerontology and geriatric mental health nursing
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, trauma-informed care and addictions

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safety and security of the client care environment
  • The candidates should be able to practice in accordance with College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards and in accordance with Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and Gerontology and in accordance with CAMH Policies and Procedures and accordance with the CAMH Practice Model of Care
  • The candidates should be able to perform assessments, including mental status, behavioural, and physical assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate inter-professional plans of client care for older adults with complex mental health and addiction issues
  • The candidates should be able to address associated behavioural challenges, complicated by physical health problems and liaise with other services within the Geriatric Mental Health Services and with community agencies to coordinate care for clients
  • The candidates should be able to utilize critical thinking and a problem-solving process in their approach to care and service delivery and demonstrate customer service skills in their approach to care and service delivery
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to program development initiatives and co-facilitate various client groups and participate in the research activities of the program and participate in clinical supervision activities
  • The candidates should be able to monitor client responses to pharmacological and other interventions and effectively communicate with team members and provide education, support, and supervision to students
  • The candidates should be able to support and contribute to a healthy workplace environment and embrace diversity within the workplace
  • The candidates should be able to encourage teamwork within the workplace and comply with all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements
  • The candidates should be willing to work shifts, including weekends
