Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Grade 12 education, GED diploma or approved apprenticeship completion is a pre-requisite
Experience: Candidates should have experience performing and/or assisting with the tasks of one or more trades such as plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical related work and use of the associated tools
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be physically able to perform the duties assigned to the position, which may include some moderate lifting, bending, walking, sitting, and standing for long periods of time
- The candidates should be able to work with paints, solvents, and chemicals
- The candidates should be ready, willing, and able to work evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, as well as travel and work in other outlying areas within the Region
- The candidates should be able to wear personal protective equipment as/when required
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess and maintain Manitoba Class 1 Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and Small Wastewater Systems Certification. Alternatively, they must be willing and able to acquire and maintain certification within three (3) years of the employment start date, in order to register for courses to obtain certification
- The candidates should possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence and have experience performing grounds maintenance, such as mowing grass, trimming trees, and landscaping
- The candidates should have experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment, including light pickup & crew cab trucks, sewer trucks, tractors, mowers, sprayers, chainsaws, and gas-powered trimmers
- The candidates should have the ability to work independently and effectively under minimal supervision. Additionally, they should have experience leading a team and providing direction to staff
- The candidates should have experience performing janitorial duties and should have knowledge of the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations
- The candidates should have experience in the operation and maintenance of public water and wastewater systems
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Park Works Supervisor, utilizing tools regularly for trades work including plumbing, carpentry, mechanical tasks, and others related to maintenance, operations, and construction activities within Asessippi Provincial Park and occasionally other Provincial Parks areas within the Region
- The candidates should be able to operate, maintain, and repair water and wastewater systems under the guidance and direction of the Park Works Supervisor, ensuring adherence to established guidelines, regulations, standards, and code
