Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of hold a valid Truck and Coach Technician (310T) certificate
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability and willingness to stay current with new technologies and equipment to perform bus repairs
  • The candidates should be able to work nights, weekends, afternoons, days, and statutory holidays with various off days
  • The candidates should be capable of meeting reasonable time expectancy in performing assigned duties

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should maintain good standing and demonstrate expertise in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues
  • The candidates should possess a valid G Driver’s License; a D or C Ontario Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement is preferred, with a Driving Abstract acceptable to the city and additional courses in the mechanic’s trade
  • The candidates should have a preferred asset, such as a current Ontario Government Certificate of Qualifications Automotive Service Technician (310S)
  • The candidates should have experience with electronic multiplexed Heavy Duty diesel engine and automatic transmission vehicles
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the O.H. and S. Act and Regulations, including WHMIS, and the Ministry of Transportation Highway Traffic Act and working experience in a Unionized environment
  • The candidates should be able to read electrical schematics and prefer familiarity with computerized work orders
  • The candidates should have proficiency in the use of electronic diagnostic readers is a must for the candidates
  • The candidates should provide all necessary hand tools and personal protective equipment to perform the necessary repairs

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform vehicle maintenance and repairs to ensure vehicles are safe for our customers
  • The candidates should be able to diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair, including brakes, suspensions, drive trains, transmissions, clutches, and other repairs accurately
  • The candidates should be able to ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately, maintaining records of all maintenance work completed, including parts and supplies used
  • The candidates should be able to complete preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections as per NSC11B, and semi-annual maintenance inspections
  • The candidates should be able to perform maintenance and repairs to the Transit fleet as set forth by the policy of the Fleet Maintenance Section
  • The candidates should be able to use laptop computers to diagnose electrical and electronic system fault
  • The candidates should be able to diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace units or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power tools
  • The candidates should be able to test and adjust units to specifications for proper performance and complete reports to record problems and work
  • The candidates should be able to work independently with minimum supervision and undertake road call diagnosis and repair
