Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should graduated from high school
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a current physical capability testing certificate obtained within the last three months and maintain physical standards as outlined in provincial policy
  • The candidates should be within 20 kilometers of the facility when on standby and a satisfactory record of work performance and attendance

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and completed an approved Advanced Care Paramedic program accredited by the Canadian Medical Association
  • The candidates should hold BLS Certification and OPMD Certification, including all current courses and modules and provide proof of registration with NLPR – Newfoundland and Labrador Paramedicine Regulation
  • The candidates should hold a valid Class IV driver’s license issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador and provide a current driver’s abstract from Motor Vehicle Registration
  • The candidates should possess a current ACP registration number with Provincial Medical Oversight and consistently demonstrate the core values of NL Health Services Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
  • The candidates should provide a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority and experience working as an Advanced Care Paramedic

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform professional work in providing emergency and medical care to clients in diverse settings
  • The candidates should be able to independently conduct advanced medical care and interventions at pre-hospital scenes, during transport, and within healthcare facilities
  • The candidates should be able to conduct physical examinations, perform comprehensive assessments, and interpret a variety of tests and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to initiate advanced interventions based on patient assessments and test results
  • The candidates should be able to provide primary client care by surveying emergency situations and taking necessary actions promptly
  • The candidates should be able to function as integral members of facility-based response teams, including Code Blue and Code White Response teams
  • The candidates should be able to lead and mentor within the paramedicine program, serving as preceptors for advanced and primary care paramedic students
  • The candidates should be able to perform general security duties of buildings and facilities associated with the Regional Health Centre
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with nursing staff and physicians in the Emergency Department to provide patient care within their scope of practice
  • The candidates should be able to promote and support person- and family-centered care in all interactions and demonstrate a commitment to safety by integrating safety measures into work practices and identifying and addressing risks
  • The candidates should be able to partner with team members to enhance worker and patient safety through proactive improvements
