Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a recognized certification program in Building Service Work supplemented
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to operate ice resurfacing equipment and any other tools or equipment related to the work and the ability to prepare simple reports
  • The candidates should have the ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, groups, and facility users to ensure observance of rules and regulations
  • The candidates should have the ability to observe equipment in operation and report on any malfunctions, the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have  by technical training related to the work, or possess an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • The candidates should have a Technical Safety BC Ice Facility Operator Certificate or higher, a valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia
  • The candidates should have strong knowledge of recreation facility maintenance and repair, knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations
  • The candidates should have working knowledge of ice rink refrigeration systems, working knowledge of ice-making methods and resurfacing equipment
  • The candidates should have working knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work
  • The candidates should have good health and strength sufficient to perform a variety of manual tasks in janitorial and building maintenance work, above-average manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform operational, janitorial, and minor maintenance work in ice rink facilities managed by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation
  • The candidates should be able to carry out tasks related to the operation and maintenance of ice arena surfaces, refrigeration plants, and related equipment
  • The candidates should be able to perform and coordinate routine janitorial duties, including cleaning change rooms and washrooms, washing and waxing floors, and replenishing supplies
  • The candidates should be able to collect and transfer refuse to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards, work across various park and recreation locations within the organization
  • The candidates should be able to accommodate various shift requirements, including morning, day, afternoon, night, and weekends
