Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a minimum of a 3-year diploma/degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 8-years of database administration experience.(equivalencies to be considered)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have formal certification in database administration, and it is desired for this qualification to be present
  • The candidate must possess more than 2 years of experience in delegating technical tasks to other staff
  • The candidate should have demonstrated project management skills, enabling them to act as a project lead or participant in projects involving other ESS members or other IT and non-IT groups
  • The candidate must have in-depth experience with database backup and recovery techniques, performance tuning and security, PeopleSoft Internet architecture, SQL, Unix, Linux, and Windows
  • The candidate should have hands-on experience with PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.58 or higher, including proficiency in Data Mover, PeopleSoft Upgrades with Change Assistant, and patch updates with PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to lead the DBA team, responsible for managing Sheridan’s diverse on-premise and cloud-based databases, encompassing production, development, training, testing, and quality assurance instances
  • The candidate should be able to perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in the research, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the databases and related application system environments critical to the smooth operation of Sheridan’s enterprise applications
  • The candidate should be able to act as a senior technical resource, providing the highest level of problem resolution for all database and applications infrastructure-related problems for Sheridan
  • The candidate should be able to plan strategies for implementing complex upgrades and patches in Sheridan’s environment, considering server and disk storage requirements, and impacts on existing systems, customizations, and interfaces
  • The candidate should be able to assign tasks to other DBAs and monitor their progress to ensure tasks are completed on time and as requested
  • They should be able to provide guidance to more junior staff and technical consultants to ensure tasks are implemented as required
  • The candidate should be able to review procedures prior to operational release for adherence to standards and to verify that system requirements, as specified, are met
  • The candidate should be able to review new system initiatives, including major application upgrades, to determine database and server requirements and meet with system owners to clarify resource needs, including the number of users, concurrency, and system availability
  • The candidate should be able to install database and application products, including any related tools for web-based services and batch processes, and related components for the web server, the application server, and the database server
  • The candidate should be able to architect, implement, and administer all of Sheridan’s enterprise databases
  • The candidate should be able to design, develop, and maintain system utilities and procedures for administering the database and application systems, including backup and recovery procedures, to ensure the reliability and availability of the databases and applications
  • The candidate should be able to plan and execute major upgrades to the databases and application environments, apply patches/fixes to the database, and promote application changes to the quality assurance and/or production environment
  • The candidate should be able to investigate, analyze, and determine the interdependencies that exist between existing technologies, systems, and services. Based on the findings, they should recommend upgrade strategies and solutions for the production environments
  • They should be able to set project/implementation standards and constraints within the boundaries of college policies and departmental standards
  • The candidate should be able to document solutions for resolved issues and follow up with end users to ensure complete closure of reported issues
  • They should be able to monitor database and application storage and CPU utilization and recommend solutions to resolve any capacity issues
  • The candidate should be able to perform other duties as required
