Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Inuktut, English, or French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a law degree from an accredited law school
Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of senior management experience in a court, legal, or administrative tribunal setting
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to oversee justice services, including Court Services, Legal Registries, and the Human Rights Tribunal
- The candidates should have the ability to ensure a fair, accessible, and culturally responsive justice system for Nunavummiut
- The candidates should be able to ensure operational efficiency and maintain high standards of service
- The candidates should be able to work in a Position of Trust and provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience fostering public awareness, enhancing staff development, and upholding fiscal accountability
- The candidates should have knowledge of legislative compliance and alignment with the Nunavut Agreement and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- The candidates should be able to communicate in at least one of Nunavut’s official languages: Inuktut, English, or French
- The candidates should have knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide strategic leadership and oversee the efficient delivery of justice programs across Nunavut
- The candidates should be able to manage the territory’s corrections division, including correctional facilities and the Territorial Police Service Agreement
- The candidates should be able to ensure effective administration of Community Justice, Corrections, and Law Enforcement programs
- The candidates should be able to balance public safety priorities with rehabilitative initiatives and financial stewardship
- The candidates should be able to foster a fair and effective justice system in Nunavut, develop and manage budgets related to justice programs and corrections
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with government agencies, law enforcement, and community organizations
- The candidates should be able to implement policies and programs that support rehabilitation and reintegration
- The candidates should be able to analyze and improve operational efficiencies within the justice system
- The candidates should be able to provide expert advice on justice-related matters to senior government officials
