Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in Planning or Engineering with a focus on transportation issues
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the collection, management, and analysis of demographic, economic, legal, social, cultural, and physical data related to transportation planning

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present effectively to various audiences
  • The candidates should have the ability to interact with staff at various levels, work in a team environment, and maintain strong internal and external relationships
  • The candidates should have strong judgment and analytical thinking skills, strong customer service skills, including the ability to respond to public inquiries and concerns regarding transportation-related issues

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience using corporate computer applications and software such as MS Office and GIS software like ArcGIS
  • The candidates should have a demonstrated understanding of and interest in urban transportation systems
  • The candidates should have a demonstrated understanding of best practices in transportation planning
  • The candidates should be familiar with the Planning Act, the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (including the Transportation Master Plan process), the Transit Project Assessment Process, and the development review process
  • The candidates should have knowledge of EMME, AIMSUN, or other advanced transportation software, be familiar with public consultation, community outreach, and public meeting organization and participation
  • The candidates should have good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills and a proven track record of developing effective working relationships with a wide range of staff and external stakeholders
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other applicable regulations and legislation

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to contribute to the evaluation of a range of transportation policy choices
  • The candidates should be able to collect, manage, and analyze demographic, economic, legal, social, cultural, and physical data related to transportation planning
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the development and maintenance of data management systems
  • The candidates should be able to design, coordinate, and implement surveys and planning studies
  • The candidates should be able to organize and participate in meetings to exchange information on development proposals, policies under review, and other planning issues
  • The candidates should be able to respond to requests for information from developers, consultants, staff from other agencies and governments, elected officials, and the public
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and organize technical reports, other written materials, and manage files
  • The candidates should be able to prepare maps, diagrams, charts, tables, and other presentation materials using computer programs/applications
  • The candidates should be able to assist in monitoring key transportation issues and travel trends city-wide or in specific districts
  • The candidates should be able to support communication with and consultation of technical stakeholders and the public
