Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a High School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have experience operating heavy equipment and machinery

Physical Requirements:

• The candidates should be at least 18 years of age and meet all medical fitness for duty requirements for the position, including safety requirements
• The candidates should have the ability to work autonomously, adapt to different situations, and handle stress effectively
• The candidates should demonstrate good teamwork and maintain positive interactions with others
• The candidates should be available for shift work, with overtime and be willing to travel for long periods, including overnight stays
• The candidates should be able to work primarily outdoors in all weather conditions and be prepared for repetitive physical activity
• The candidates should be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 70 pounds occasionally

Other Requirements:

• The candidates should have relevant work experience in similar working conditions or within a regulatory and safety environment
• The candidates should possess General Education Diploma (GED), or equivalent and hold a valid driver’s license
• The candidates should be dedicated to completing tasks while meeting established standards of quality, safety, productivity, and client satisfaction
• The candidates should display common sense and good judgment in their work and possess good hand-eye coordination and grasping skills and welding skills and knowledge of signals or Railroad Operating Rules

Responsibilities:

• The candidates should be able to maintain CN’s train rails, ties, switches, and ballasts by conducting inspections, repairs, and replacements
• The candidates should be able to maintain and ensure proper functioning of hand tools used for assigned work
• The candidates should be able to remove and replace defective ties, rail spikes, and anchors as part of track maintenance
• The candidates should be able to repair deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge to ensure safety and operational efficiency
• The candidates should be able to install and repair street and railroad crossings, and assist in the replacement or repair of power-operated switches and insulated joints
• The candidates should be able to unload ballast and distribute track material effectively and sort and prepare used track material for loading and re-use
• The candidates should be able to ensure the railroad right-of-way is clear of brush, vegetation, snow, and litter and follow CN’s safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment
