Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should hold an undergraduate degree in Labour studies or a related discipline, or possess an equivalent combination of education,
Experience: Candidates should have experience in various Labour relations activities

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work in an office setting, involving extended periods of sitting and computer use
  • The candidates should be able to travel occasionally for meetings or department-related activities
  • The candidates should have the capability to attend and actively participate in various meetings

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should bring experience as a mediator or conciliator, preferably in Labour relations or employment matters, and demonstrate expertise in interpreting and applying Labour and employment legislation or collective agreements
  • The candidate should exhibit experience in case management, covering intake, review, assessment, planning, processing, implementation, and follow-up. Additionally, the candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills to address emotionally charged issues professionally, along with research and analytical skills for problem-solving and sound decision-making
  • The candidate should show proficiency in verbal communication, conducting meetings or presentations with diverse stakeholders, and effective written communication skills, including the ability to write clear and concise reports
  • The candidate should display the ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks, prioritize competing demands, manage changing priorities, and meet strict deadlines
  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • The candidates should have the ability to travel throughout the province, including occasional overnight stays, and flexibility to work overtime if and when required

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to help establish and maintain the credibility of The Board in the Labour and employment community by consistently acting with integrity, honesty, and practicality
  • The candidates should be able to facilitate dispute resolution by acting as a Board representative (Mediator) to help parties resolve matters without the need for adjudication
  • The candidates should be able to report to the Registrar and act as the returning officer for Board ordered votes and as Commissioner of Oaths in hearings
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the administration of the matters assigned to them, including the processing and organization of all material filed
  • The candidates should be able to monitor Board legislative deadlines, coordinate case management conferences and hearings, and assist with the preparation of Board orders
  • The candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills and a wide range of Labour knowledge when explaining the Board’s processes, procedures, and jurisprudence to employees, employers, unions, and the legal community
  • The candidates should be patient, tolerant, mature, and understanding when dealing with the wide variety of clients and stakeholders in the context of complex and emotional Labour and employment disputes
