Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have experience performing various cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance activities in an institutionalized environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to lift, push, pull heavy items, as well as climb ladders
  • The candidates should have the ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, and shifts as assigned, as well as work in multiple locations
  • The candidates should be able and willing to transport residents from their room to the dining area

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience using floor maintenance machines, cleaning equipment, materials, and solutions
  • The candidates should have experience following infection control protocols and procedures
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the provisions that apply to this work
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Guidelines
  • The candidates should possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, residents, and families
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prepare and maintain written records, and use communication equipment such as telephones
  • The candidates should have the ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to clean, wash, strip, and wax floors and stairs, including dispensing cleaning solutions and using equipment such as mops, disinfecting tools, buffers, floor scrubbing, and carpet cleaning machines
  • The candidates should be able to vacuum and clean carpeted areas, including shampooing carpeted areas and furniture, using required equipment and able to set up, move, and take down furniture, tables, chairs, for functions
  • The candidates should be able to clean, polish, and dust washrooms, locker rooms, offices, windows, and air ducts
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and secure facilities and perform maintenance duties such as changing A/C filters, greasing motors, and changing belts
  • The candidates should be able to clean and store equipment and machinery used and able to shovel snow, salt walkways and lots, and cut grass
  • The candidates should be able to maintain light fixtures and replace bulbs and related appliances and able to load and unload supplies and replenish them
  • The candidates should be able to direct parking in City of Toronto garage and entrance at City of Toronto properties
  • The candidates should be able to defrost, clean, and disinfect refrigerators and able to stock and maintain cleaning carts
  • The candidates should be able to pick up garbage and recyclables and remove them to designated areas and able to perform storekeeping duties
  • The candidates should be able to deliver clean linen, gowns, and clothing, including labeling and de-labeling residents’ clothing
