Through policy development and community engagement, it address the needs and priorities of Edmontonians. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Education in Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline
Experience: Candidates should have Minimum of two years of experience in a designated political, policy, communications, public relations, public affairs, public information, or related position

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a university degree and experience within a large complex organization or working with elected officials
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to gather technical information and translate it into accessible communications materials, effectively communicating with the public
  • The candidates should have a proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver quality products and advice on time
  • The candidates should exhibit effective project management ability and the capability to work under pressure and should have excellent organizational and time management skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities at work and Video editing experience
  • The candidates should be prepared for frequent evening and weekend work, despite the regular weekday schedule of this position
  • The candidates should demonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity, and promoting inclusiveness and alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent is expected, fostering an environment for others to do the same

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to staff the Mayor at in-person events, including on evenings and weekends and able to create social media content at events, including photos, videos, and text
  • The candidates should be able to collect information and notes from stakeholders at events and follow up as required and able to ensure the Mayor is prepared for meetings and has relevant briefing materials
  • The candidates should be able to help plan, organize, and execute events, meetings, and conferences and able to provide research and writing support to the Mayor’s Office as required
  • The candidates should be able to provide support to the Communications Director and Outreach and Engagement Director within the Mayor’s office, including assisting in the development of key messages, briefs, and engagement strategies
  • The candidates should be able to maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the community and develop partnerships with key stakeholders to effectively and creatively communicate about the Mayor’s agenda
  • The candidates should be able to support the communications team in media relations and assist in the implementation of outreach and stakeholder relations strategies for the Office of the Mayor
  • The candidates should be able to gather data on demographic and stakeholder outreach and able to identify and assess emerging social media trends
